  • AFRINIC Workshop Joining Instructions for local hosts

A cornerstone of all our workshops is ensuring that at least 40% of the time is spent actually configuring equipment. We do this by running a testbed together with our partners on the 6Deploy project. Each of these testbeds consists of 6 routers and they are lots of such identically linked testbeds that can be booked and used for practice or workshops. To book this testbed, go to the 6Deploy global testbed reservation portal.

The diagram below shows both the testbed topology as well as the access topology. Apart from a basic configuration to ensure access from any location, these routers are bereft of any configuration - a true testbed in every sense of the word. Our Lab manual is meant to be used with this testbed.

1. Coordination of the event

The focal point for organizing the event locally is the local host, in this most of the cases, a local contact. It is the duty of the organizer to ensure the smooth running of the training and assist the trainers with the following:

  •  Act as liaison between the hotel (or the training venue) and the trainers for any purpose related to training.
  • Ensure the registration of participants on site.
  • Support costs for the lease of the training venue and catering services.

2. Training room requirements for the conference

2.1 It is necessary to provide training room for a minimum of 30 seats.

The conference room should be equipped with the audiovisual facilities and the following equipment;

  • A video projector.
  • A projection screen.
  • A flip chart and markers.
  • Internet access (broadband) for participants.
  • 30 PCs configured under Ubuntu (Optional).

2.2 Seating arrangements:

  • Classroom style for thirty participants.
  • A table and two chairs for trainers located in front of participants.

2.3 The trainers will print files for participants:

A printer is required for any on-site printing.

3. Programme

3.1 The training sessions:

The training will be conducted by AFRINIC instructors. The room identified for training should be free on the eve of the event to ensure the implementation and set up of the technical equipment.
