IPv6 for System Administrators

Introduction

While the network infrastructure ferries packets around the world, it is only as valuable as the services that run atop of it. It is those services that have made the Internet such a powerful tool for learning, collaboration, commerce and entertainment.

In line with our strategy for ensuring there's something for everyone, this module is designed to help systems administrators build dual-stack versions of core network services like DNS, Web , DHCP and Mail.

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to

  1. Provision IPv6 hosts and CPEs with necessary configuration
  2. Configure and verify a dual stacked DNS server
  3. Configure and verify DHCPv6 and SLAAC
  4. Configure and verify a dual stacked web server
  5. Configure and verify a dual stacked mail server

 Pre-requisits

Participants must already be systems admins that have been building and maintaining the respective services in IPv6. Thus we assume

  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP
  • Experience using the Linux/Unix command line interface
  • Understanding and experience with designing and implementing DNS services
  • Understanding and experience with designing and implementing web services
